Surviving SUMMER!

Good morning and welcome back to Classy Classic's By Kandis. As a stay at home mom of 4 children of the ages of 10,8,2 and 5 months I have a kid in each stage right now,😥 and let me tell you something. As the babies were growing I look back on some days now and think I wish I would of been more patient about school days.

When the first two were younger as there's a bit of a age gap in between the first two and the second 2, I remember I was excited to be getting that time when they were in school, to have that time to get stuff done, they would be great going to school and for some reason in my mind school days were going to be this great rainbow gummy bear feelings.

Well..... As the 2 have been in school for a could years now as they will be heading into grades 4 and 5, I now think of how nice it was before we had this crazy school schedule. Way to want your cake and eat it to lol.
School days get hard as once they start that is what it is then for many years to come.

In Saskatchewan the kids have 2 months for summer break. 6 weeks, just over 60 days as they are out at the end of June and head back beginning of September.
There 6 weeks to do all that fun summer stuff camping, vacations, cleaning, and back to school prepping. There is not much time to fit it all in. On the other hand that is 6 weeks of the kids home everyday, asking for tv, snacks, to go and run around.
Either way you look at it, and if you are like me you will have all these thoughts many times and which one is the better way to look at the picture.

These days fly by, and some crawl by as it is a long time, and a short time all at once.

So do I have a point to this haha and yes I do. Kid's are put into a routine for 10 months of they year, and then are pulled and required to keep up, calm down, and go with the flow but be busy. How is this possible to do everything at once and not get overwhelmed. They want to do it all, but tend to want to be in front of a screen!
So I have a couple points to help try to round out this square of a circle summer break!

As summer break is coming up and fast, there is as of next week 8 days of school, as I don't count the weekends on our count down.
Kid's get crazy about getting up and going, and less excited about another day at school in those desks. Lessons are less, and structure is loosened. Field trips are happening and books are being sent home one by one.

I try to start my summer planning in the beginning of June, so I have time to tweak the schedule and routines. Why? Why make a schedule, for summer break. It's just that a break! All I can say is HAHAHAHA a break! Like taking kids on vacation is a "break"! Your break time is now when you get the kids to bed!
Which is what feels like never as bedtimes are not as strong. I have found that a good summer schedule, make those days at home more smooth, then when you are out on "vacation" or camping it can be more of just that a "vacation" and the family bond can be stronger.

Anywho the point to this blog is just that finding a way to make it through a short but fast long 2 months.

The first things I do is crop a summer routine. Morning, afternoon and evening. Sounds pointless and even cruel right? However I do this for a couple reasons.

There is no point of staying up late then waking up to early to run to the t.v.🤦‍♀️ The tv is not going any where and those kids need their sleep. So a good morning routine is good. There is no tv till after 10 am in the summer. They have their get up and ready routine instead of dead tired zombie eye tv watching.

The afternoon one is cause it gets hot, and they get crabby so I use this as a chill time where they need to take a little bit of a break and relax. This is where some light homework comes in.

Then the evening is so they are not running around till who know when, also so my house does not stay completely wrecked, and they actually get cleaned up before putting their gross dirt feet into bed. This also ensured that they are calming down and resting.

So a good summer schedule here is a must. I also crop a small exercise list of by stuff for the kids to burn the morning buzz off, also a snack schedule as they will not eat me out of house and home in matter of minutes haha. There is also a family summer bucket list that we do to a degree, but many will print off one and then as the summer goes on it can be easier to fill the board days!
Do you have a summer bucket list? What is on it?
We have a goal of many picnics, and possibly swimming lessons this year!
So all, the little things put together adds up to a big one.
Go ahead and set a structure for summer, it will make the days smooth, and less I'm board I want to play video games and watch 10 hours of tv. Haha.

I will be sharing all of these in the next couple weeks.
Our routines and snack schedule.
Make sure you stay tuned for these coming soon!
What are your plans or goals for the summer?
